Giving in memory

Making a donation in memory of a loved one is a wonderful way to celebrate what they loved and valued. A gift to the Science and Industry Museum helps preserve their passions, allowing their legacy to inspire future generations.

We are pleased to partner with MuchLoved, an online platform that allows you to create a personalised and free online tribute page in memory of a loved one. Through MuchLoved, you can share cherished memories, photos and videos all in one dedicated space, while raising funds for a charity of your choice. The Science and Industry Museum are registered on MuchLoved and can support you if you have any questions about setting up a tribute page.

Leaving a gift to the Science and Industry Museum in your Will is simple to arrange. Here are the three most commonly used options you may wish to consider:

A share of your estate (a residuary gift) – This would be the remainder (or a percentage of the remainder) of your estate after all other commitments in your Will have been fulfilled. Even a small percentage of the estate remainder has a large impact on the museum and this gift ensures that the value of your generous contribution is protected from inflation.
A sum of money (a pecuniary gift) – This would be a gift of a specified amount, and to protect the value of such gift from the consequences of inflation you can request that your solicitor makes your gifted sum linked to the index of retail prices.
A specific item – such as property, shares, valuables or personal items that are part of the estate. If you are kindly considering leaving an object to us in your Will, please contact us to ensure we can accept it. More information can be found on our Donate an object page.

If you would like to leave a gift to the Science and Industry Museum, the following wording can be adapted by your solicitor:

'I give:

(a [ ]% share of) the residue of my estate
OR/AND the sum of £[ ]
OR/AND my [description of items]

to the Board of Trustees of the Science Museum of Exhibition Road, London SW7 2DD, on behalf of the Science and Industry Museum, Liverpool Road, Manchester M3 4FP, for its general purposes and I direct that the written receipt from the Director or other duly authorised officer of the Board of Trustees of the Science Museum shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors.'

We always advise that you seek independent professional advice when writing your Will, to ensure that your estate will be distributed in accordance with your wishes.

Many of our supporters choose to leave unrestricted gifts to the Museum, allowing us to direct funds to where they are most needed.
