The Science and Industry Museum in Manchester is open. Book your free tickets now.

We need your curious minds! Join the Museum Mystery Solvers and help us discover which material powered one of our explosive engines.

Our investigation will take in everything from changing states to fluorescent flames, and finally, of course, big explosions. Working like scientists, we’ll crack the case.

Booking terms apply for this event.

What will they learn?

  • Through a series of large-scale explosive demonstrations, students will develop their knowledge of material properties, changing states (including reversible and irreversible change) and the fire triangle.
  • Collaborating in an investigation, students will develop their scientific working skills, including observation, prediction and experimentation.
  • Through playful participation and varied interaction with a museum Explainer, students will enjoy the experience, developing positive perceptions of science.

NB: Explosions will include loud bangs and flashing lights, which may not be suitable for everyone, so please consider this before booking. If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to get in touch.
