Research and study

The Research Centre study area is home to our archive of original source material and reference books, and is available by appointment for personal, professional and academic research.

Please contact us at collections@scienceandindustrymuseum.org.uk to make an appointment. Appointments can be made on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at least five working days in advance, and are dependent on staff availability.

If you have a specific research enquiry, please contact us before you make an appointment so we can help you make the most of your visit. We aim to respond within 20 working days. Either call us on 0161 606 0127 or email us at collections@scienceandindustrymuseum.org.uk.

You can also browse our collection online or use the archive catalogue to search our archive collections.

Our major new exhibition gallery is taking shape alongside the Research Centre. The gallery will enable us to create and bring world class science exhibitions to Manchester.

Researchers are still able to access the archive collections while the build phase of the gallery is underway, but we have reorganised the museum stores for 3D objects. Between July 2019 and October 2020 we are unable to provide access for researchers to 3D objects in the stored collection.
