Summer engineering days

Engineering is everywhere—from the roads we drive on to the music we listen to. 

2018 is the Year of Engineering and we're celebrating it with summer activities and special events that really bring engineering to life.

Invent, Shape, Create: Our City

Date: Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 August
Time: 10.00–17.00

Cranes, games and... bees? Take a different look at engineering at our free family weekender. 
 
Make a mechanical paper bee, create a rocking musical instrument, become a city planning super hero with the help of a Lego Discovery Centre Master Builder, join us for Pi: Platform for Investigation – Powered by Siemens to find out how diamonds are changing science, and meet the local engineers that are changing our world. Hard hats optional.

Age: Recommended for ages 8 and older

Shine like a diamond and find out how these sparkly gems are changing science and technology.

Building our world

Time: 10.00–16.00 (Sunday only)
Age: Recommended for ages 7 and older

Get to grips with the weird and wonderful side of engineering and meet the amazing people who build our world.

LEGO Inventors

Time: 10.00–14.00
Age: Recommended for ages 6 and older 
Location: Conversation Space, Textiles Gallery

Get creative with Lego and build solutions to all of Manchester’s problems with the help of a Lego Master Builder from the LEGO Discovery Centre.

Manchester Bee Puppet Engineering 

Time: 14.30–16.30
Age: Recommended for ages 5 and older
Location: Bee Garden, Upper Yard

Engineer a mechanical Manchester bee puppet out of paper and take on the beehive building challenge.

Industrial instruments

Time: 10.00–16.00
Age: Recommended for ages 7 and older
Location: Power Hall

Join School of Noise to experiment with sounds and invent and test out instruments using unusual and unexpected objects.
