We're turning up the fun at the Science and Industry Museum this summer, with daily family shows, activities and events, whatever the weather.

Daily workshops and activities

Plant Power

Time: 11.00, 11.30, 12.00 and 12.30
Age: Recommended for ages 5 and older

Light or dark? Warm or cold? Whatever the environment, we've got a seed for you. Get your green fingers twitching, discover the science of seeds, find out how the Sun powers your plant or flower, and plant your own mystery seed to take home.

This activity is free, but booking at the front desk is required (limited availability).

Sun Detectors

Time: 11.30–16.00
Age: Recommended for ages 3 and older

Brighten up your summer outfits at this drop-in workshop with a colour-changing band or bracelet. Make your own must-have accessory then watch it transform in the UV light of the Sun. 

A Star is Born storytelling

Time: 14.00
Age: 0–4 only

Join us on a journey of a lifetime—the lifetime of a star, from stellar nurseries to glittering galaxies. This free storytelling event will fill little ones with wonder.

Weekend activities

Strolling Gardeners walkabout

Date: 10–11 August

How does your garden grow? This roaming flowery circus will get families talking about the power of the Sun and dressing up to be part of a moving garden themselves.

Trip the light fantastic with these bubbleologists and find out the science behind rainbows and big, big bubbles. Pop!

LEGO rainbow engineering

Date: 10–11 August

Follow the rainbow with Brickz4Kidz to make colourful arcs and mosaics of everyone’s favourite natural phenomenon.

Sun Playground
